I had the chance to attend the Ortus SolutionsMVC for Dummies training in Washington D.C. While I have been using Coldbox for a while now I couldn't pass up the chance to attend given the fact it was being taught by the creator of Coldbox, Luis Majano himself.
When the "X for Dummies" series of books began, I embraced them merely for the fact that these books were easier to skip around in and find just what you want as well as skip ahead to the part you need a little better understanding of. Don't get me wrong, these are by no means my only source of knowledge. In fact, one of the things that got me originally hooked on ColdFusion 4.5 is that the software came with books. I read "Developing Web Applications with ColdFusion" cover to cover in a matter of days before I ever installed CF 4.5.
It's frustrating when you're trying to learn something new and you feel like you get 90% of it but you're having trouble wrapping your brain around that last 10%. Quite often that's when I turn to the "for Dummies" type books, training, etc. It always seemed easier to skim through what you know and glean those bits you still struggled with. That is why I attended MVC for Dummies.
It was great to glean those bits I didn't have directly from the creator of Coldbox, Luis Majano. I have had the opportunity to meet him and many of the Ortus staff over the years at CFSummits and have always been impressed not only with their knowledge and skill but also with how friendly and willing to give advice or assistance. I learned quite a bit from this training and if you are thinking of attending an Ortus Solutions training, just do it. You won't regret it. Thanks Luis for the great training!
The ColdFusion community is great and I am trying to take advantage of any chance I get to meet new people and network a little bit. With that in mind, tomorrow I attend the ColdFusion Summit East in Washington D.C. I'm glad it's back on. I'm looking forward to all the great sessions.
I have been building web applications with ColdFusion since 1999. ColdFusion has always been my server of choice and I have utilized it to build and improve numerous business processes, tasks and systems for numerous clients. It has always proven to be the most reliable, stable, powerful and agile tools in my Toolbox.
